No-surprises version: how long each stage takes, how dusty it really gets, and when you can use the kitchen again.
Most people getting a backsplash installed in Berlin have never hired a tile setter before, which is fair — most people do this once a decade. Here is the whole process, honestly, including the parts that are inconvenient.

Demo creates dust — there is no way around it. We seal the kitchen opening with plastic and sweep as we go. Expect a light film on nearby surfaces that wipes off, not a construction site.
An oscillating tool and a wet saw will be running during demo and cuts. If you work from home, plan around the first morning.
You keep the kitchen for most of the job. The sink area may be off-limits for a short period while the tile cures.
Light use the same evening after grouting, normal cleaning after about 72 hours, and harsh cleaners after a week.
Berlin is a town of two halves — the older farmhouse and mill-era stock around Kensington village, and the tidy 1950s–70s ranches and splits that fill the streets off Route 372 and the Berlin Turnpike side. Practically, that means the prep stage can run longer in Kensington than in a newer house — the greenhouse-style window over many Kensington sinks is common here, and it cannot be rushed. We build that into the schedule rather than pretending it will not happen.
Do I need to be home the whole time?
No. Most clients are in and out. We do want a walkthrough at the end, and we will send photos if you cannot be there.
What if the wall is worse than expected behind the old splash?
It happens, especially in older Berlin homes. We stop, show you what we found and agree the fix before continuing. That is why we do not quote removal as a vague allowance. See removal & replacement.
